Creative systems

January 2026

Marx argued that when the means of production change, society reorganizes around them.

The new creative means of production are creative systems.

Generative AI represents a fundamental shift in the creative means of production. It does not merely accelerate execution; it converts creative work from manual labor into systems that can produce output autonomously. When production becomes cheap and infinite, what becomes more valuable is taste.

The promise of creative systems is immense. It gives a single creative the same production power as the world's largest agency. Your creative vision is no longer limited by how much time you have; just how compelling your creative idea is.

In the creative industry, the shift into systems is already visible. Agencies that were once asked to deliver fifty assets are now being asked to deliver a system that can generate fifty thousand. The future deliverable is no longer the asset itself, but the creative logic that produces it.

Yet the industry’s economic structure has not caught up. Agencies are still billing for outputs rather than systems that make infinite outputs. Clients desire creative systems and agencies strive to deliver them, but creative systems have not yet lived up to their promise.

The reason is simple. Creative systems have historically been too fragile to sell as products. They were bespoke, opaque, inconsistent and difficult to trust. Without tooling that makes creative systems intuitive to build, easy to understand, highly repeatable, and easily monetizable, the power of creative systems cannot be realized. This is what we're building at FLORA: critical infrastructure for the creative industry to build, share, and use creative systems.

Each layer of the creative stack is moving upward. The old model of creative tools powering agencies and agencies delivering assets to brands is giving way to a new one. Creative infrastructure sits beneath everything. Agencies design creative systems. Brands operate them directly.

This does not eliminate agencies. It elevates them. The highest value creative work is no longer execution, but authorship of systems reflecting their creative process. Encoding taste, constraints, and judgment into machines that can run indefinitely without supervision.

Every new means of production creates a new industry around it. Creative AI does not replace creativity. It multiplies it.
